Description

Bob Mintzer: 14 Jazz & Funk Etudes (Bb Saxophone)

These 14 more etudes from Bob provide a range of stimulating practice and performance materials for today's musician. Stylistic influences include jazz, classical, 20th Century composition, funk, and a variety of hybrid groove music. The melodic approach ranges from simple to dissonant and abstract. The rhythmic approach covers straight-forward, syncopated, and over-the-barline techniques. Each etude has guidance notes on performance and practice, plus the compositions are analysed. Hear Bob demonstrate the etudes, then play along with the professional rhythm section: Phil Markowitz (piano/synth), James Genus (acoustic & electric bass), John Riley (drums). Bk/2CD

LEGENDARY !! A dozen or so etudes in different styles, with accompanying insights by Mr M into how he approaches playing them. Everything from swing to funk, free to a beautiful 5/4 feel ballad ('Across the barline'). Really written for Bb players (esp tenor sax). Awesome rhythm section CD playalong. Definitely Int/Adv !!..
