Description

Tim Richards: Improvising Blues Piano

Comprehensive guide to playing blues piano. Richards explores the musical roots (harmonic, rhythmic and melodic) of the blues, from the early 1920s boogie pioneers to Chicago Blues styles and the current scene. Contains over 60 pieces including arrangements of blues standards such as Got My Mojo Workin', Honky Tonk, How Long Blues, Pine Top's Boogie Woogie and St. Louis Blues. Richard's own compositions demonstrate authentic left-hand patterns and bass lines, chord voicings, blues scales, licks and riffs, coordination and improvising. CD contains all the pieces, and play along tracks performed by the author.

Book/CD, spiral bound, 262 pages

The essential book for all aspiring blues pianists - Jools Holland

I highly recommend the book ... it's almost like having your own personal instructor - BLUES REVUE (USA)

This book leaves any possible competition standing at the post - Brian Priestley, JAZZWISE

Beautifully presented, it has clarity, heart and comprehensiveness - Michael Garrick

A joy to read and practise with at the keyboard. The CD contains all the pieces in the book and sounds great. All of the lessons are presented in an organized, no-nonsense approach that is easy to understand. It also covers some jazz techniques, confounding those purists in both camps who would like to keep blues and jazz in separate compartments... Highly recommended - Dr John Kuzmich Jr, JAZZ EDUCATION JOURNAL (USA)
