Club owner receives top music accolade

The owner of London’s 606 jazz club, Steve Rubie, has been announced as the recipient of the Musician’s Company Jazz Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 at a ceremony in Tallow Chandlers Hall.

Rubie, who plays flute and sax and leads the latin-jazz band Samara, took over the running of the 606 in 1976 and subsequently moved it from its premises on 606 King’s Road, Chelsea around the corner to Lots Road where he has promoted jazz seven days a week for over 30 years.
