Renowned classical music venue, St John's Smith Square, will open its doors to host a special jazz double-bill when JBGB Events presents The Music of Gil Evans: Miles Ahead and Porgy & Bess on 24 November as part of this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival.

The first half will feature pianist/bandleader Chris Ingham’s REBOP sextet who perform their arrangements of the Miles Ahead album, on tracks such as ‘The Duke’, ‘New Rhumba’ and ‘Blues For Pablo’.

The second half features a rare live performance of Porgy & Bess, with the 22-piece Royal Academy of Music All Stars Jazz Orchestra (comprised of esteemed RAM alumni) who will be conducted by RAM’s Head of Jazz Nick Smart, alongside top UK trumpeters Henry Lowther, Steve Fishwick, Freddie Gavita and Martin Shaw.

The scores for this have been specially provided by Miles Evans (Gil’s son) who has granted exclusive access to the authentic arrangements of music on the original album.
