Cassandra Wilson, Chick Corea and Terence Blanchard win at the Grammys

Lady luck deserted UK Grammy hopefuls Stacey Kent and Norma Winstone last night in the jazz vocals category as Cassandra Wilson picked up vocal album of the year for her Blue Note album, Loverly.

In a night when there was considerable success for UK rock and pop acts Adele, Coldplay, and Robert Plant the insularity of the Grammys in the jazz category saw all-American winners. Best contemporary jazz album went to the otherwise unfêted Randy Brecker album Randy in Brazil while best jazz instrumental album went to Chick Corea and Gary Burton for The New Crystal Silence. The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra won in the large ensemble category while Arturo O’Farrill picked up latin jazz album of the year and Terence Blanchard won in the instrumental solo category.
