Divinity Roxx and Steve Lawson for two-bass blitz at Jazz Cafe

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Former Beyoncé bassist, rapper and musical director Divinity Roxx is set to headline the Jazz Cafe, Camden in a rare UK appearance with her fiery live band on 27 September.

The night will also feature an opening set from acclaimed solo bassist and soundscaper Steve Lawson.

Roxx first emerged as a guest performer with renowned US bassist Victor Wooten in the early 2000s after attending one of his Bass Nature Camps and subsequently being asked to tour with him. Following this she successfully auditioned for Beyoncé’s live band and then spent the next five years touring the world and playing such prestigious events as Glastonbury Festival and for President Obama at The White House. Roxx has also appeared on albums by Will.I.Am, Victor Wooten and several live Beyoncé DVDs. Now established as a solo artists Roxx will be performing her own brand of jazz, rock and funk infused hip hop on material taken from her new album ImPossible.

British solo bassist Steve Lawson will be opening the night with a set of his own immersive improvised music created using a dizzying array of effects pedals, looping hardware and bespoke software. Through these he produces a whole universe of very un-bass-like sounds, ranging from his own finely nuanced six-string bass playing to guitaristic solos and waves of ambient noise, all of which can be heard on his latest album The Surrender Of Time.
