Marcus Miller and Cassandra Wilson get set for Cork Jazz Festival

Monday, September 7, 2015

The first names have been announced for this year’s Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, which runs from 23-25 October, with top US bassist Marcus Miller headlining the Everyman with music from his new album Afrodeezia on Saturday 24 October.

Set in the southern city of Cork in the Republic of Ireland, the festival traditionally strikes a balance between heavyweight jazz names and popular soul and funk artists, this year’s opening night featuring a double bill of Grace Kelly and the New Irish Orchestra performing at the Everyman.

Alongside bassist Miller, Saturday also features Peter King and Savina Yannatou, while Sunday evening headliners are piano trio of the moment GoGo Penguin performing at Triskel Christchurch, on a double bill alongside 3G-The Guilfoyles. Also that evening at the Everyman is a double of the Cassandra Wilson Quintet and Darius Brubeck Quintet. Other names so far announced are Colin Stetson & Sarah Neufeld, Julian Argüelles and Phil Ware Trio & Peter Bernstein.
