Kyle Eastwood may have inherited his famous father’s life-long love of jazz, and composed his fair share of Hollywood film scores, yet it’s only in the last five years that his long-running jazz quintet has really hit its stride, thanks to his increased maturity as a bandleader, his virtuosic bass technique and a blossoming empathy with his London-based band.

Back with a 1960s hard-bop-inspired new album, Timepieces, which pays tribute to Horace Silver and Herbie Hancock, Eastwood spoke to Selwyn Harris about tapping into these masters’ music and how jazz films are never easy to bring to the silver screen
