The star-studded line-up for the historic jazz festival includes the biggest names at the world’s largest indoor jazz event

The NN North Sea Jazz Festival, the world’s largest indoor music festival, has announced the first wave of artists for its eagerly anticipated return to the Ahoy Centre in Rotterdam running from 7 to 9 July 2023 with a line-up packed with international stars across the worlds of jazz, blues, soul, pop and beyond.

This includes legendary South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim; multi-Grammy Award winning band Snarky Puppy; revered guitarist John McLaughlin with legendary Indo-jazz group Shakti; revered trumpeter and educator Wynton Marsalis with his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, guitar star Pat Metheny with his Side-Eye trio, iconic Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek; Grammy winning composer Maria Schneider who leads The Oslo Jazz Ensemble; contemporary greats Bill Frisell, Hermeto Pascoal and Stanley Clarke, and hot new-jazz stars Yussef Dayes, Ezra Collective and many more. 

Other heavyweight bookings include
Andrew Cyrille Quartet; Kenny Barron Quartet; Van Morrison; SuperBlue: Kurt Elling & Charlie Hunter with the Huntertones Horns; Terri Lyne Carrington; the Fred Hersch/Drew Gress/Joey Baron trio; Branford Marsalis Quartet; Cymande and Kenny Garrett Quintet. There’s also the cream of the present-day jazz scene with the likes of Gard Nilssen's Supersonic Orchestra; Fergus McCreadie Trio; Jasper Blom Quartet with Pablo Held; Linda May Han Oh; Mette Rasmussen Trio North; Kandace Springs and Samara Joy also appearing.

The North Sea Jazz Festival attracts 75,000 music fans each year and is known for its frenetic, exciting atmosphere across multiple stages, which since its inaugural event in 1976 has hosted performances from everyone from Miles Davis and Count Basie to Amy Winehouse and Adele. This summer the festival expects more than a thousand musicians, over 150 performances and 15 stages. Less than an hour’s plane-ride away, a direct train from London St Pancras or ferry ride, the North Sea Jazz Festival is easily accessible from the UK and perfectly suited for a weekend retreat.
