Manchester’s Northern Quarter Jazz, aka NQ Jazz, had to reschedule its 2020 programme from March to June 2020 and then postpone it again to June this year; the organisers are now announcing a full list of gigs and workshops. Packing in a huge number of top UK names, there’s something for all tastes. Jazz workshops and live shows will be split between two venues, with workshop sessions in The Stoller Hall and evening gigs at The Yard (all taking place on the same day), notably with Ant Law and Norma Winstone (above) delivering public masterclasses at Stoller Hall, (with Law’s masterclass starting immediately after his matinee show).

Additionally, all of the evening performances at The Yard will be livestreamed online. The Sunday events that have films in their titles are live improvised scores to silent film, loosely based around a science-fiction theme. These are curated by guitarist and researcher José Dias, who also performs with his trio on 4 July.

Full details of all the workshops can be found on the venue website below, dates are: Ant Law (14 Jun); Norma Winstone presents ‘A Time Remembered: The Music of Bill Evans’ (21 Jun); IBQT (28 Jun); José Dias Nosferatu (4 Jul); Lauren Kinsella (5 Jul); Chris Montague’s Warmer Than Blood (12 Jul); Ella Hohnen-Ford’s Treeclimbers (19 Jul); Vonnegut Collective The Moon Smells Like Gunpowder (25 Jul); Fergus McCreadie (26 Jul); Joe Downard’s Seven Japanese Tales (2 Aug); AuB (9 Aug); David Austin-Grey Trio 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (15 Aug); Andre Canniere’s Ghost Days (23 Aug); Misha Mullov Abbado (30 Aug); John Ellis & Matt Owens Paris Qui Dort + Le Voyage dans la Lune (5 Sep); Rob Luft (6 Sep); Shirley Smart (13 Sep); Mark Lockheart’s Dreamers (20 Sep); Ripsaw Catfish Aelita: Queen of Mars (26 Sep); Gareth Lockrane’s Grooveyard (27 Sep) and Byron Wallen’s Four Corners (4 Oct).
