Blue For You At The Jazz Cafe On Valentine's Night

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Valentine's night at the Jazz Cafe in London's Camden Town is traditionally Billie Holiday night courtesy of bassist Gary Crosby, best known for post-Messengers hard bop group Nu-Troop and blue beat, rock steady and jazz-influenced big band Jazz Jamaica.

The Londoner on Thursday leads a group that pays tribute to the great Baltimore-born singer with a band that includes saxophonist Denys Baptiste best known for his critically acclaimed Let Freedom Ring! album, key Nu-Troop drummer Rod Youngs, New Orleansian trumpeter Abram Wilson, searing Jackie McLean-influenced alto saxophonist André Brown, pianist Andrew McCormack best known for his jaggedly memorable album Telescope and skilful singer Zara McFarlane who has toured extensively with Jazz Jamaica, appearing on the album Motorcity Roots for Dune.
