The Brighton based Verdict jazz club, which is run by drummer Tristan Banks, is asking its audience to “join us in preserving the vibrant legacy of jazz music at Verdict Jazz”, by starting a crowdfunding project that “aims to support the continued growth and impact of our organisation in celebrating this timeless art form.”

For the last 12 years The Verdict has forged an international reputation as a hub of jazz and the creative performance arts, hosting many established and emerging artists from the UK, Europe and US, who work within all aspects of the music and creative industries. As running costs have risen by up to 30% in some cases, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain fundamental expenses, such as utilities, musician’s fees, and various running costs.

The club attracts healthy audiences every week but still faces a tough economic climate that according to the Music Venue’s Trust in the last year alone has seen 16% of UK Grassroots Music Venues close, 125 music spaces permanently closed, 4,000 jobs lost, 14,500 events no longer possible, 193,230 opportunities lost for musicians and 38% of remaining venues post a financial loss – while the whole sector records 0.5% profit margin on £501m turnover despite increased ticket demand.

The Donation rewards include 1 Year Memberships, Hoodies, T-Shirts, Beanies, Baseball Hats and Tote Bags – to donate to the Verdict Jazz Crowdfunder visit www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/the-verdict
