A plethora of exciting new bands line-up for two nights as part of the Bristol Jazz Fest in March
Bristol-based promoter Worm Disco Club, which has been a major player in the development of the city’s jazz scene over the past five years, is to extend its activities with the launch of a label.
The imprint, Worm Discs, will be launched on 27 March with a gig – part of the 2020 Bristol Blues & Jazz Festival – at Fiddlers Bristol with performances from three of the label’s favourite local acts. These include duo Run Logan Run (Andrew Neil Hayes on saxes and electronics, plus drummer Matt Brown); eight-piece Afro-jazz/hip-hop collective Snazzback; and the eclectic sounds of trio Waldo’s Gift, consisting of bassist Harry Stonham, guitarist Alun Elliot Williams and drummer James Vine.
There’s a second Worm Disco BJ&BF showcase on 28 March, also at Fiddlers, this time featuring three exciting up-and-coming Scottish acts including funky-fusion octet corto.alto, three-piece AKU! and Glasgow-based jazz DJ Rebecca Vasmant. The bill will be topped by fast-rising trumpet/vocal sensation Emma-Jean Thackray.
