Cathy Jordan teams up with Noble & Clarvis for Freight Train LP and tour

Irish traditional folk singer Cathy Jordan has teamed up with leading UK jazz musicians, pianist Liam Noble and percussionist Paul Clarvis, for a new folk-meets-jazz album and UK and Ireland tour

Irish traditional folk singer Cathy Jordan, who’s well known for her long involvement in the band Dervish and the Transatlantic Sessions has teamed up with pianist Liam Noble and percussionist Paul Clarvis for a new folk-meets-jazz album Freight Train. Released on 6 January 2023 via the Village Life imprint, the album is the result of sessions that happened remotely in lockdown and then were completed live in the studio in 2022. Born in County Roscommon, Ireland, Jordan is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, bodhran, bones and bouzouki, while leading UK jazz musicians Noble and Clarvis have previously released their a album Starry Starry Night (2009) and performed together in the percussionist’s Trio.

The new group set out on a series of live dates at the following venues: Ashburton Arts Centre, Devon (11 Jan); The Table, Walsall (12 Jan); RWCM Richard Burton Theatre, Cardiff (13 Jan); Hen & Chicken, Bristol (14 Jan); Forde Park Café, Newton Abbott (15 Jan); Stratford Playhouse, Stratford-Upon-Avon (8 Feb); Karamel, London (9 Feb); Eastside Jazz Club, Birmingham (14 Feb); Kings Head Hotel, Ross-on-Wye (15 Feb); Coventry Jazz, The Albany Club, Coventry (16 Feb); Leeds Conservatoire, The Venue, Leeds (17 Feb) and Magy's Farm, Dromara, Co. Down, Ireland (18 Feb).
