Clare Teal joins Jazz FM

Tuesday, January 5, 2021

Award-winning jazz singer and broadcaster Clare Teal has left BBC Radio 2 and moved to a new programme slot on Jazz FM, with her first Big Band jazz show airing on 24 January at 7pm

The new two-hour show will feature an eclectic mix of big band music hand-picked by Teal, who commented on her move: “I am beyond thrilled to be joining Jazz FM. To find a new home as excited as I am, to share the music I love, with like-minded folks, is just brilliant. In addition to celebrating classic older big band, jazz, swing, latin, trad and whatever records I happen to be loving at the moment, I really want to focus on highlighting our fantastic and vibrant British big band, jazz, and swing scene which is as vital and relevant as ever.”

Teal’s programme is part of a new Sunday evening line-up which also features the return of comedian and self-confessed jazz fanatic Marcus Brigstocke’s six-part series Jazz Family Trees which follows at 9pm. This new hour-long Sunday night slot will also feature jazz documentaries and other short series across the rest of the year. The Sarah Ward Collection moves to Saturday evening from 6pm.

JazzFM also revealed its Top 100 jazz artists with the Top 10 including Billie Holiday (No.10 ); Ramsey Lewis (No.9); Louis Armstrong (No.8); b(No.7); Ella Fitzgerald (No.6); Herbie Hancock (No.5); Nina Simone (No.4); George Benson (No.3); Gregory Porter (No.2) with Miles Davis at No.1.
