A Hologram Maze is the new band project led by pianist/composer David Austin Grey and features five of the UK’s finest improvisers, all close friends, who bring a deep sense of understanding and common purpose to each composition as they create warm, reflective, open-hearted, lyrical jazz. AHM’s music unfolds equally in gently weaving turns and dynamic sweeps as the band navigate different moods and emotions, from sweet and tender, through to frenetic, assertive energy. The band features trumpeter Sam Wooster, saxophonist/flautist Xhosa Cole, double bassist Shivraj Singh and drummer/percussionist Nathan Jones with their debut album The Beauty of A Co-Pilot, set for release in 2023.

Having recently released their first single ‘Fracture’, which Grey describes as “a piece written while reflecting on the feeling of something being broken. Most of us can think back to times in our lives where we truly wanted to fix, change or repair something. With this piece I felt moved to take that energy and channel it into something positive, hopeful and beautiful."

The follow-up track ‘Our Rose Garden’ is premiered on the video below – a moving duet with Grey and Haitian-American vocalist/violinist Germa Adan, with the song described as “a journey through a musical love letter, laced with bitter-sweet nostalgia. Inspired by reflections upon a past relationship and a romantic adventure in New York City. The lyrics came first, a cathartic love-letter in the form of a poem. This was then set to a rich, ever-shifting through-composed ballad written at the piano."
