The next tranche of names have been announced for the 2016 Cheltenham Jazz Festival, which runs from 27 April to 2 May, and adds to both headline and core jazz elements of the programme.

Top US fusion-funk saxophonist David Sanborn makes his debut at the festival as he headlines the Big Top on 1 May with his Electric Band, while suave jazz vocalist José James plays the Jazz Arena on 30 April, performing new music from his forthcoming Blue Note album, which is due for release in the spring. Rising star singer/multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier, whose debut album on Universal is set for release in 2016 and who has been developing a complex technologically advanced audiovisual solo show, has also been announced for the Jazz Arena, on 29 April.
The festival, for which Jazzwise is media partner, also pays tribute to the late great British pianist John Taylor who sadly died in July last year, and was a longtime friend and performer at Cheltenham over the years since his role as Artist in Residence in 2004. His former Anglo-Norwegian group, Meadow, will reform for a special one-off concert at the Parabola Arts Centre on 1 May with renowned drummer Thomas Strønen joined by saxophonist Tore Brunborg and guest bassist Anders Jormin, all of whom will premiere new music for this special memorial concert. Completing these latest additions are jazz-fuelled future-soul Australian band Hiatus Kaiyote, who have been building a big UK fan base following recent tours and whose latest album, Choose Your Weapon, was nominated for a 2016 Grammy award, are set to headline the Town Hall on 30 April, in the popular jazz-dance spot.
These artists join those announced exclusively in Jazzwise last year, which include Julian Argüelles and Django Bates with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band; US trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah; the Giovanni Guidi Trio; iconoclastic New York saxophonist/ bandleader Tim Berne and his group Snakeoil; virtuosic Swiss jazz singer/beatboxer Andreas Schaerer with the Rom Schaerer Eberle trio, including guitarist Peter Rom and trumpeter Martin Eberle; singer/guitarist Becca Stevens and Cuban jazz pianist Omar Sosa with his Quarteto AfroCubano.
