A live version of Dave Okumu’s debut solo album, KNOPPERZ, KNOPPERZ: Live from Deptford is released today, Friday 3 December. The album is accompanied by the Sons Of Emmerson live video, shot during the recording session for the album, plus a 37-minute video of the entire session is now available to view exclusively here on Jazzwise – see the full video below.

Performed and recorded in Okumu’s South East London neighbourhood, KNOPPERZ: Live from Deptford finds him joined by a full live band comprised of Duval Timothy, Robert Stillman, Raven Bush, Aviram Barath, Tom Herbert, Nick Ramm and Tom Skinner

Okumu is best known as lead singer and guitarist in The Invisible and is also one of Britain's most sought-after songwriters and producers. After several years working behind the scenes or with others, the KNOPPERZ project finds Okumu stepping in to the spotlight by himself.  The instrumental soundscape – which unites jazz, hip-hop and experimental electronic music – is partly a homage to J Dilla’s classic Donuts and inspired by, and samples, elements of pianist Duval Timothy’s album, Sen Am

As well as his endeavours in Mercury nominated, critically lauded band The Invisible, Okumu has collaborated with an array of top tier artists, including Arlo Parks, Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, St Vincent, Jessie Ware and Adele. On his latest project - the recently-released and critically-acclaimed album, The Solution Is Restless - Okumu teamed up with Joan As Police Woman and the late, great Tony Allen.
