F-ire Collective Go Zoom!
Friday, August 22, 2008
Zoom is a new international collective of collectives, built on mutual musical affinity, it aims to create natural musical bridges between overseas collectives while maintaining each group's own identity. Zoom will also create more opportunities for UK bands to play abroad and UK labels to be promoted alongside these gigs. With the ultimate aim of improving the exchange of information between like minded groups to create a network across Europe. The first Zoom Nights will take place in London as part of the major F-ire@Kings Place Festival from 15-18 October with Ingrid Laubrock (pictured), Robert Mitchell, Basquiat Strings, Oren Marshall, Tom Arthurs and many more booked to appear.

The first bands booked to perform include Octurn (Belgium) and Thôt (France) who will both perform at this F-ire Festival. Thôt will premiere a new collaboration with Tom Arthurs and Julian Siegel. Alongside the performances, journalist Stuart Nicholson will host a round-table introduction to music collectives.
The international activities kick off with plans for F-ire and Yolk collectives to perform two Zoom nights next autumn in France, and Mâäk's Spirit will invite Fiasko to two or three Zoom nights in Belgium next September. There's also interest from a German promoter to put on a Zoom night gathering at least three collectives.
As if all that weren't enough a Zoom Nights double CD featuring three tracks from each of the nine collectives is available in the UK through the f-ire website www.f-ire.com, with a new Zoom! website to be launched to coincide with the Kings Place festival in October.
