A new one-day jazz festival takes place in East London on 5 October
Jazz East, a new one-day jazz festival, takes place on Saturday 5 October at the Leytonestone Ballroom, Waltham Forest, East London. The programme kicks off at 12noon with the Community Free Stage, presenting five local jazz bands, before the main Ballroom opens at 4pm for the mainstage performances to begin.
Programmed by Mark Kass, of not-for-profit promoters London East Jazz Network, artists appearing include award-winning Scottish groove-jazz stars Fat Suit (top), who launch their forthcoming album at the festival; high-flying guitarist Rob Luft and his Quartet; Afro-Latin Hammond-guitar crew Wild Card; bassist Dave Manington’s E17 Spirit of ’59 Collective; Tomorrow’s Warriors Female Frontline (above) and award-winning saxophonist Xhosa Cole. Further sounds come from saxophonist Dee Byrne's plugged-in Saxtronica and genre-splicing crew The Sonus Jazz Quartet.
