Gilad Atzmon strings it out

Friday, February 28, 2003

Gilad Atzmon takes a leaf out of Charlie Parker’s book with a new touring project, Gilad With Strings, that hits the road in May. Inspired by Parker’s 1949 landmark Verve recording Charlie Parker With Strings, Atzmon and his quartet, featuring pianist Frank Harrison, bassist Yaron Stavi and drummer Asaf Sirkis, are collaborating on the project with the Sigamos String Quartet, who have previously worked with the English National Opera, London Chamber Orchestra and the Northern Sinfonia as well as collaborations with the F-ire Collective and Tango Siempre.

The tour will feature adaptations of the music from Parker’s Verve albums as well as specially composed new pieces by Atzmon and Huw Warren. Dates are: Norfolk and Norwich Festival, Norwich (14 May); Bury Festival, Bury St Edmunds (15 May); Hull Festival, Hull (1 Aug); St Georges Hall, Bristol (Sept 26).
