Herbie Hancock announced for Lifetime Achievement Award at Jazz FM Awards 2020

The 2020 Jazz FM Awards are now set to take place at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club on 27 October, having been delayed from their original date in May

The ceremony will adhere to all government guidelines and will be a closed event that will be livestreamed on both the Jazz FM and Ronnie Scott’s Facebook page alongside special dedicated programming on Jazz FM. The station have also partnered with their first ever headline sponsor for the awards in the form of foreign exchange company Oanda.

It has also been announced today that legendary, 14-time Grammy-winning pianist Herbie Hancock is to be the recipient of this year’s PPL Lifetime Achievement Award. The news follows the recent announcement that Norah Jones will be presented with this year’s Impact Award. The recipient of the Gold Award will be announced soon. The awards will be hosted by UK comedian, actor and Jazz FM presenter Marcus Brigstocke.



The nominees for the various categories are Breakthrough Act of the Year: Rosie Turton (pictured), Xhosa Cole and Yelfris Valdés. The Digital Award: Chiminyo, Jacob Collier and Jazz re:freshed. The Innovation Award: Jazz re:freshed, Moses Boyd and Sarathy Korwar. Instrumentalist of the Year: Binker Golding, Mark Kavuma and Shirley Tetteh. International Jazz Act of the Year: Branford Marsalis, Charles Lloyd and Kris Davis. Soul Act Of The Year: Anderson .Paak, Celeste and Philip Bailey. Blues Act Of The Year: Keb’ Mo’, Gary Clark Jr. and Jon Cleary.

Vocalist of the Year: Alice Zawadzki, Georgia Cécile and Judi Jackson. Public Vote Categories: PRS For Music UK Jazz Act Of The Year: Joe Armon-Jones, SEED Ensemble and Yazz Ahmed: Album Of The Year: Ashley Henry Beautiful Vinyl Hunter, Binker Golding Abstractions of Reality Past and Incredible Feathers, Branford Marsalis Quartet The Secret Between the Shadow and the Soul, Jazzmeia Horn Love & Liberation, SEED Ensemble Driftglass and Yazz Ahmed Polyhymnia. Venue of the Year: Band on the Wall (Manchester), Church of Sound (London), Love Supreme Festival (Glynde), Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (London), The Verdict (Brighton) and Vortex (Dalston, London).
