Jazzlondonlive Launches Jazz Listings App for Android and Apple devices

Thursday, November 10, 2016

With the demise earlier this year of long-running and much-loved monthly Jazz in London listings freesheet, which was produced by its founder and editor Mary Greig for an astonishing 40 years, many wondered what would replace this vital source of information for live jazz in the capital.

The answer came via musicians Sarah Chaplin and Mick Sexton, who initially launched a website with the aim of offering a virtual version of the printed listings. Having achieved this the pair began to get inundated with requests for an App version of the listings and, having raised £12,000 via a Kickstarter campaign, the app has now been launched in time for the EFG London Jazz Festival.

The mobile app has been initially launched on Google Play and Amazon and covers over 100 venues, approximately 1,000 gigs and a growing roster of jazz artists each month, enabling subscribers to access listings for London and the South East both by venue and by date, all for a modest annual subscription. The app affords frictionless connections directly to Google Maps to show a venue's location, and to a venue's website or ticketing site to phone or book. This is part of phase one, as from the morning of Friday 11 November, those with Android phones and tablets, or a Kindle Fire, will be able to download the app for the introductory price of £2.79 for the duration of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Phase two will follow, with the release of the Apple version before Christmas and the associated Jazzlondonlive website moving to a bespoke version in the new year.
