Jim Mullen and Martin Speake for Trinity Laban Inside Out Festival

Thursday, May 19, 2016

Renowned Scottish jazz guitarist Jim Mullen is set to discuss his career, early influences and his distinctive musical approach at a free Q&A session, hosted by saxophonist Martin Speake, as part of Trinity Laban’s Inside Out Jazz Festival 2016.

The event takes place at 3pm on Wednesday 22 June in the Theatre Studio at King Charles Court, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich.

Mullen, who’s known for his distinctive solo style, all played with his virtuosic thumb picking technique, forged his career in the 1970s through early appearances with Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express, Kokomo and Average White Band as well his career-defining partnership with saxophonist Dick Morrissey in their pioneering jazz funk band, Morrissey-Mullen.

Following this at the nearby Oliver’s Jazz Bar, Greenwich, Speake and Mullen will perform in a group with pianist Andrea Vicari and Trinity Laban students during a set of Indian, Arabic and Turkish inspired pieces from Speake's band Mafarowi.
