Boutique vinyl-only labels are on the rise and US-based Newvelle Records are among those pioneering a new subscription-based model to produce a lovingly pressed, lavishly packaged run of six albums a year.

Founded and run by acclaimed jazz pianist Elan Mehler and vinyl-loving entrepreneur Jean-Christophe Morisseau, the label's first three releases this year have been Jack DeJohnette's solo piano album Return, pianist Frank Kimbrough's Meantime, and saxophonist Noah Preminger's Some Other Time. Further releases include albums by late, great pianist Don Friedman (Strength and Sanity, featuring Phil Palombi and Shinnosuke Takahashi); bassist Ben Allison's Trio (Quiet Revolution, featuring Ted Nash and Steve Cardenas), and coming in December rising star keyboardist Leo Genovese Trio (Argentinosaurus, featuring Esperanza Spalding and Jack DeJohnette).
The roster gains momentum next year with releases from John Patitucci Trio (featuring Yotam Silberstein and Rogerio Boccato, above); pianist Kevin Hays and guitarist Lionel Loueke Duo (April 2017, pictured top); Jon Cowherd featuring Steve Cardenas, Tony Sher and Brian Blade (June 2017); Chris Tordini Trio featuring Becca Stevens and Greg Ruggerio (August 2017); Aruán Ortiz solo piano revisiting the music of the great Cuban Classical composer Ignacio Cervantes (October 2017) and finally the Rufus Reid Trio with Steve Allee and Duduka Da Fonseca and the Sirius String Quartet (December 2017).
