Thursday, February 2, 2006

Singers may be tripping over themselves to tackle jazz standards these days but few have the verve and spark of a Julia Biel, the award winning singer who is set for some extensive touring this spring. Julia, who was a winner early on in her career of the Perrier Young Jazz Vocalist Of The Year competition, has just been announced as one of the faces of a new print campaign for mobile phone company Nokia. She's due to tour with guitarist Johnny Phillips, flautist Idris Rahman, cellist Ben Davis, bassist Jasper Hoiby and drummer Seb Rochford.

The dates are: Plough Arts Centre, Great Torrington (11 March), Leeds College of Music (17 March), Norwich Arts Centre, Norwich (24 March), South Hill Pk, Bracknell (29 March), St George's, Bristol (30 March), Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells (13 April), Vortex, London (14 April), Warwick Arts Centre (22 April), Pyramid and Parr Hall, Warrington (28 April), Cheltenham Jazz Festival (30 April), Stables, Milton Keynes (2 May), Phoenix Arts Centre, Exeter (18 May) and The Anvil, Basingstoke (20 May). Julia's album Not Alone is out now on Rokit records.
