It’s been another busy year for the restlessly creative drummer/producer Makaya McCraven as he’s toured around the world and continued his progressive and collaborative approach to making music.
Following the release of his widely hailed 2018 album Universal Beings, the drummer picked up ‘Best International Jazz Act’ at the 2019 Jazz FM Awards in April, before appearing at numerous festivals throughout the summer, including Love Supreme Jazz Festival in July. He then returned to Europe for his autumn tour, which saw him perform at the EFG London Jazz Festival with his own band at Village Underground and collaborate with British saxophonist Soweto Kinch for the premiere of the altoist/MC’s multi-media show, The Black Peril.
Jazzwise is proud to present this compelling live performance, captured in Holland from McCraven’s recent tour – with his stellar live band featuring Junius Paul (bass), Greg Spero (keys/piano), Marquis Hill (trumpet) and Irvin Pierce (saxophone) – all combining to powerful effect on the track ‘In These Times’ - see the video below.
