Portico Quartet Nominated for Mercury Prize and The Blessing Win BBC Album of The Year

The first signing to the Vortex’s own label, the Portico Quartet, was nominated this morning for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, taking its place in the shortlist of 12 albums for the prize to be unveiled later in the year. The quartet was nominated for its debut album Knee-Deep in The North Sea which is characterised by its hypnotic minimalistic sounds driven by the beguiling steel pan-like sounds of custom-made Swiss instrument, the hang.
