US keyboardist recaptures the spirit and energy of the revered Austrian keys king and his band Weather Report on a striking new album

Renowned Tribal Tech keyboardist Scott Kinsey pays passionate tribute to the music of legendary Weather Report founder Joe Zawinul, on his new album, We Speak Luniwaz, which is released on 25 October on Whirlwind Recordings.

Mixing originals inspired by the iconic keyboardist’s unique soundworld, alongside much-loved WR classics, such as ‘Black Market’, ‘Fast City’ and ‘Port Of Entry’, the band features virtuosic French bass guitarist Hadrien Feraud, fiery Hungarian drummer Gergo Borlai and top LA-based flautist/saxophonist Katisse Buckingham. The album also includes guest appearances by some stellar international names such as Jimmy Haslip (on two tracks), Bobby Thomas Jr., Arto Tunçboyaciyan and Steve Tavaglione among others.

Speaking about the album, Kinsey commented: "Zawinul's music has been near and dear to me ever since the moment I first heard it. My objective was to try to do justice to this material, more than anything as a little thank-you note to someone who certainly changed my life. And someone who gave us all so much through his uncompromising and impossibly high musical standards. What Joe did was create his own personal language that was always in the moment and totally fresh! So with time, I also learned to speak Luniwaz, perhaps using my own personal dialect... I'm pretty sure he would have loved this record."
