As lockdown halted all live performances in March, Birmingham-based label Stoney Lane Records teamed up with the newly formed online jazz festival organisers Around The Houses (ATH), and launched two successful online concert series, featuring many leading Midlands-based musicians such as Soweto Kinch and Sara Colman, raising £2,000 to help musicians affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

Taking things a step further, Around The Houses’ founder/ saxophonist Alex Woods, Stoney Lane boss Sam Slater and promoter Tony Dudley-Evans have joined forces to commission inventive pianist-composers David Austin Grey and David Ferris, young composer/saxophonist Olivia Murphy, and virtuosic sitar player Roopa Panesar to write, record and film brand new music over the last six weeks. The four newly commissioned works will be broadcast on both the Around The Houses and Jazzwise Facebook pages this Saturday 22 August from 5pm GMT.

Alongside these four new commissions, Stoney Lane Records will also be launching its new Patreon platform, offering music fans various opportunities to support musicians and be involved in the monthly commissioning, recording, filming and performance of new music, featuring an eclectic range of leading artists, composers and bourgeoning young instrumentalists.

There will also be a series of monthly podcast interviews with writers, artists and broadcasters in and around the jazz and music world, who will be playing and talking about the music that has had significant impact on their lives.

The four new commissions will premiere exclusively on the Jazzwise Facebook page on Saturday 22 August 2020, from 5.00pm GMT - www.facebook.com/Jazzwisemagazine – to support the not-for-profit commission and for further info, visit www.patreon.com/stoneylane
