The revered bassist and composer announces his epic new orchestral album

Having had a year’s worth of carefully planned globetrotting wiped out thanks to the worldwide pandemic, bassist Avishai Cohen’s grand 50th anniversary plans for 2020 were cancelled before they even began. Now he’s set to release a suitably panoramic album, Two Roses, on 16 April on the Naïve/Believe label that captures some of the adventure and grand musical ambitions of that year in the form of a lushly orchestrated set of favourite songs and originals by the bassist.
Backed by the simpatico Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, which is conducted by Alexander Hanson, Cohen leads a core trio of acclaimed Azerbaijani pianist Elchin Shirinov, who appeared on Cohen’s previous record, Arvoles, and his celebrated long-time collaborator, New Jersey native drummer Mark Guiliana. See the May issue of Jazzwise for a review of the album and an interview with Avishai Cohen – and watch a preview of the making of the album below.
