Video of the Day: Charnett Moffett Trio shares ‘Remembering Your Love’ featuring Jana Herzen

Renowned jazz bassist Charnett Moffett’s first live trio recording was released this past October, furthering an exciting, unpredictable and richly artistic jazz journey featuring guitarist/vocalist Jana Herzen with drummer Corey Garcia
The live recording comes from a 25 July performance at Yoshi’s and includes two new Moffett compositions, including the track 'Remembering Your Love', a spiritual, danceable and swinging ‘jazz standard’ with a Brazilian/Latin tinge penned by Moffett and Herzen. Herzen’s rich vocals ride the syncopated inter-locked swing of the bass, drums and guitar. Midway, the instruments engage in some fun call-and-response interplay.
"’Remembering Your Love’ is about every kind of love... romantic love, family love, spiritual love. Charnett wrote the melody and the title and asked me to write verses,” Herzen recalls.
The song took shape in a single day at Moffett and Herzen’s home studio, where they initially recorded it with just bass and vocals. The live performance from July was spontaneous —it was the first time Garcia had heard the song, as well as the first time they performed it in a trio format.
"So many times, the first take is the most magical and it gets missed. I'm so glad that we had the video and audio tapes rolling for this one,” Moffett adds.
Moffett’s legendary virtuosity on the electric bass is ever-present in his compositions, which glisten in live performance as well. 'Remembering Your Love' is another vibrant showcase of this artistry, all the more enhanced by the chemistry of this trio.
