Video of the Day: Michael Wollny shares ‘Mondenkind’

Thursday, October 22, 2020

The renowned German pianist is back with a stunning new solo piano album and shares the title track

Having built an international reputation for his explosive trio albums in recent years, masterful pianist Wollny explores some much more intimate themes on his new solo recording.

Inspired by the solitude once experienced by astronaut Michael Collins as he circled the moon alone after Neil Armstrong and “Buzz’ Aldrin had landed on its surface, the Mondenkind album sees Wollny create songs inspired by the music of Tori Amos, Timber Timbre, Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner , Nico Muhly and Alban Berg among others. Writing about the album in the latest issue of Jazzwise, Stuart Nicholson says “this album is not about spot-the-influence, it’s about inspiration in the moment, something Wollny has become a master at of late.”

See the Dec/Jan double issue of Jazzwise (out on 19 November) for an in-depth interview with Michael Wollny about the album and watch the video below for more info visit www.actmusic.com/en/Artists/Michael-Wollny
