The propulsive horn-led track showcases the young saxophonist’s artfully swinging sound

The Amsterdam-based Newbould received much critical praise for his debut album Blencathra, which was described by Windout magazine as “A musical mosaic of futurist ideas and indie-jazz harmonies...a sound bridge between past and present”, and he’s set to follow this with Bogus Notus, which is released on ZenneZ Records on 5 March 2021.

Recorded at Studio 150 Bethlehemkerk, Amsterdam by Joeri Saal in September 2020, the album also features tenorist Bernard van Rossum, pianist Youngwoo Lee , bassist Daniel Nagel and drummer Guy Salamon on Newbould’s eclectic mix of hook-laden themes that draw as much on Radiohead as they do on Wayne Shorter. There are some guest performances too from trumpeter Ian Cleaver, guitarist Billy Marrows and Frederico Calcagno on bass clarinet while vocalist Beth Aggett lights up the mellow ‘Song for Annie’.
