When Can I See You Again? is trumpeter Sean Gibbs’ debut album under his own name and features renowned musicians Riley Stone-Lonergan on tenor sax, Rob Brockway on piano, Calum Gourlay on bass and Jay Davis on drums and is set for release on Ubuntu Music on 13 August. “It was an immense privilege to record these pieces with some of my favourite musicians from the London scene,” says Gibbs.

Gibbs’ music is steeped in the jazz tradition, with a focus on lyrical melodies, hearty grooves and a deep connection to the blues. Three of the seven compositions – ‘The Grand Parade’, ‘Camperdown’ and ‘That’s Your Lot’ – will be released ahead of the album. ‘The Grand Parade’ was inspired by Gibbs’ first home in London with saxophonist Helena Kay and pianist Alex Maydew. ‘Camperdown’ was named after a play park in Dundee which evokes Gibbs’ childhood.

“‘That’s Your Lot’ was written about feeling content with my lot in life, and realising what really matters when so much was taken away with the pandemic,” explains Gibbs. “The compositions are largely about celebrating the human connections that I’d sometimes taken for granted.”
