Spice’n’Space is an Israeli jazz-funk group, led by the flautist, composer and arranger Mattan Klein and drummer Uria Mader, formed after a chance meeting in a Tel Aviv club to combine their mutual love of jazz, fusion and funk music.

The Funk Thing is Spice’n’Space’s debut album release featuring eight original compositions. Inspired by The J.B.’s old-school funk and late 1960s recordings by Lou Donaldson and Grant Green, sophisticated harmonies of Herbie Hancock and the modern groovy sounds of Vulfpeck, Spice’n’Space create a new sound, balanced between the old and the new, the simple and the sophisticated.

The Funk Thing presents a fresh new approach to funky jazz with a special focus on flute in the context of groove and funk,” explains Klein. “The album fuses old-school grooves with hints of pop and reggae elements, all the while referring to vintage keyboard and drum sounds. The result brings a new and refreshing mix to listeners but watch out because your feet might force you to get up and dance!”
