Academic honours for Django and Dave

Friday, November 4, 2005

Two of the UK's most celebrated jazz musicians are to receive recognition from the academic world.

Pianist and composer Django Bates today will be awarded a Fellowship at Leeds College of Music's annual graduation ceremony. The fellowship is in celebration of his outstanding contribution to the UK music scene. And bassist Dave Holland, originally from Wolverhampton but long since resident in the USA, is to receive an honorary degree at UCE Birmingham (home to the Birmingham Conservatoire) on 2 December, and will give a solo bass performance at the Conservatoire the next day.
