Jazz breaking news: Sarah Gillespie to tour The War on Trevor

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Singer Sarah Gillespie’s anti-war song 'The War on Trevor', a 15-minute piece based partly on Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn is launched next month at Ronnie Scott’s on 3-4 April, when Gillespie appears in a double bill with the mighty Get The Blessing.

The hard hitting lyrics chart the travails of a Londoner (‘Trevor’) suspected of crimes he may or may not have committed, with Gillespie drawing on high profile cases including those of Jean Charles de Menezes and Moazzam Begg.

Gillespie is joined by her band of saxophonist Gilad Atzmon, bassist Ben Bastin and drummer Enzo Zirilli. Further Gillespie dates include Much Wenlock Poetry Festival, Much Wenlock (13 April); Guildhall, Lichfield (15 April); Ropetackle Arts, Shoreham by Sea (19 April); The Barn, Snailwell Suffolk (solo, 21 April); The Albion Beatnik Bookshop, Oxford (24 April); Command House, Rochester (25 April); Vortex, London (26 April); Wakefield Jazz, Wakefield (27 April); St David’s Hall, South Petherton (28 April); Black Mountain Jazz, Abergavenny (27 May); Strawberry Hill Jazz Festival, Richmond-upon-Thames (3 June); and Marlborough Jazz Festival, Marlborough (14 July).
