Poetry Olympics
Wednesday, September 21, 2005
Forty years ago the Royal Albert Hall was the venue for the Poetry Olympics (filmed as Wholly Communion) which celebrated the renaissance of performance poetry.
To mark the anniversary the Royal Albert Hall is again to host a gathering of poets and artists on 25 September with veterans from the 1965 show including Adrian Mitchell, Michael Horovitz and Andrei Voznesensky alongside poets from today including Linton Kwesi Johnson and John Hegley. Tickets are £10. An associated jazz poetry superjam will also take place at London's 100 Club on 6 October to coincide with National Poetry Day. For more info go to www.poetryolympics.com
