UK tour for Tord Gustavsen Trio
Friday, September 16, 2005
The trio format is one of the most popular and flexible in jazz history and in recent years has re-entered the spotlight with the success of groups such as EST and The Bad Plus.
The latest trio to make waves internationally has at last started to become more widely known in the UK after a limited amount of touring and a few CD releases. But next month a major tour for the Tord Gustavsen Trio should increase the Norwegian group's profile to new heights following on the tail of the superb release from earlier in the year, The Ground on ECM. The group Ð Tord Gustavsen, piano, Harald Johnsen, bass and Jarle Vespestad, drums Ð originally came together as accompanists for singer Silje Nergarrd in 2000 and then went on to record Changing Places three years later as a trio. The tour dates are Vicar Street, Dublin, (1 October); Half Moon Theatre, Cork (2 October); MAC, Birmingham (4 October); CCA Glasgow (5 October); St George's Bristol (6 October); Jacqueline du Pre Music
Building, Oxford (7 October); Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham (8 October); The Venue, Leeds (9 October); Te Anvil,
Basingstoke (11 October), The Sage, Gateshead (12 October) and Wigmore Hall, London (11 November).
