Back in October photographer (and bassist) Peter van Breukelen took in the sights and sounds of the 2021 ‘Dutch Double Bass Festival’ in Rotterdam brought Jazz, Classical, Early Music and World Music together in a two day celebration of the huge range of artists on double bass & bass guitar.

- John Scofield played as a duo with bassist Dave Holland.  Their intimate concert with both original pieces and well known jazz standards was more than well received.

- Polish Youtube and Instagram bass star Kinga Głyk (pictured top), is clearly inspired by Marcus Miller. She played a groove oriented set which brought the audience out of their seats.

- Bassist Derrick Hodge, well known for his work with Robert Glasper had a unique collaboration with the classical ‘Caureim Quartet’ and drummer Marcus Gilmore. It showed his versatility and musicality in surprising ways!

- Danish bass player Jasper Høiby rose to prominence with his trio Phronesis. With his new formation Planet B, he explored adventurous acoustic jazz with a message about our planet and the climate. Truly a highlight of the festival!

- Bass player Janek Gwizdala, is one of the big names in the electric bass universe. Using lots of electronic effects such as loops and delays he played an exiting set with drummer Nico Vicarro (from the Mike Stern band) and Tom Cawley on keys.

- Dave Holland at his best as a duo with John Scofield. A very special collaboration In which they were very much I tune with each other.

- Bassists of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Europe’s best orchestras, were part of the classical part of the festival. Special guest was international star soloist Božo Paradžik (pictured on the right)
