Maria Schneider Orchestra, Snarky Puppy, Bill Frisell and Joey Alexander among the nominees for Grammys 2016

Tuesday, December 8, 2015

The seemingly endless lists of nominees for the Grammy Awards have been announced.

Besides a powerful showing from Kamasi Washington’s bud Kendrick Lamar, names from the jazz orbit to be recognised include prodigal whizz Joey Alexander, John Scofield and Robert Glasper, who all picked up mentions in the Best Jazz Instrumental Album category, while the Maria Schneider Orchestra and Gil Evans Project have been listed in the Large Jazz Ensemble Album class. Other artists to be recognised are Bill Frisell and Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest who feature in the Best Contemporary Instrumental album grouping, as well as Cécile McLorin Salvant and newcomer Jamison Ross who crop up in the Best Jazz Vocal album section. The winners will be announced during the Grammy Awards ceremony, which will be held on 15 February 2016 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
