Ginger Baker recently dropped into the UK to promote his aptly titled autobiography Hellraiser and to play a one-off gig at London’s Jazz Cafe.
“I went to one of those schools where taking music up as a profession was frowned upon by some of the staff and regarded as a bit ‘sissy’ by some boys,” says Armstrong.
One of Whitehead’s fondest memories is “tripping alongside the trombone players on the Whitsunday marches and being fascinated by the slide going in and out.
