Dave Liebman/Richie Beirach, Christine & Ingrid Jensen and Mark Turner head to Birmingham’s Eastside Jazz Club

Jazz in the Midlands got a huge boost with the opening in September of a state of the art £57million premises for Birmingham Conservatoire, which is now home to the Eastside Jazz Club and will present the first gig of its autumn programme tonight with revered US saxophonist David Liebman lining up with longtime piano collaborator Richie Beirach (pictured), ahead of more appearances by stellar US and UK artists.

Mike Carr – 1937-2017

Mike Carr, who died on 22 September aged 79, was arguably the most compelling of British jazz organists, notable for his enthusiasm and for his unerring ability to generate powerful, swinging improvisations.

Joon Moon Exclusive stream of ‘Moonshine Corner’

Liane Carroll and Claire Martin play Jazz for Labour in Brighton

Jazz for Labour is presenting multi-award winning singers Liane Carroll and Claire Martin plus other jazz names over two nights at The Walrus in Ship Street, Brighton during this year's Labour Party Conference, which takes place at the Brighton Centre from 24-27 September.
