Berserk! is precisely that, a bonkers mix of Goth death thrash electro-opera spliced with ambient grooves. Born from a collaboration between bass/composer Feliciati and sonic masher-upper extraordinaire Fornasari, the pair lasso together several of the RareNoise stable to create a multi-layered smörgåsbord that evokes horror movie sound tracks, Black Sabbath tribute bands and the worst hang over you wish you never had. The song titles are the giveaways: ‘Macabre Danse’, ‘Fetal Claustrophobia’, ‘Not Dead’: you get the picture. Fornasari's extraordinary, growled vox dominate the mix, but there are moments of lightness: ‘First’ features an Adrian Belew-ish vocals and melancholic piano, while ‘Dream Made Of Water’, starts with a dreamy ambience before getting very shouty indeed. Those with long memories may remember Comus, and there's something of the black massy madness of that band buried here among the overdubs and over-acting. But you'd have to look very hard, and maybe life's just too short.
