The last time I heard Georgie Fame's voice he was belting out Cole Porter at the 2010 London Jazz Festival, basking in Guy Barker's wonderfully detailed orchestral arrangement. To hear Fame in an intimate trio setting of just guitar and bass – no piano, no organ – is a real delight, not least because it allows you to completely focus in on his wonderfully rich vocal timbre. The 12 tracks of Lost In A Lover's Dream include pop classics, Fame originals and standards, all of which the singer bends to his own inimitable style. Penned by Andy Fairweather-Low, one of many artists with whom Fame has worked as a sideman, album opener ‘Wide-Eyed and Legless’ gets things off to a terrific start. Here, and throughout, guitarist PrimožGrašičand bassist Mario Mavrin provide apposite accompaniment. Of the originals, ‘Blossom’ – a homage to Blossom Dearie – is a standout, while fans of Fame singing standards should head straight for consummate versions of ‘My Foolish Heart’, ‘Cry Me a River’, and ‘I Can't Get Started (With You)’
