The intriguingly titled ‘Nothing Like A Casablanca Turtle Slideshow Dinner’ on Neve's major label debut in 2006, Nobody's Illegal(EmArcy), suggested a young jazz musician had arrived to whom the sky was the limit. The prodigiously talented pianist (he graduated summa cum laude – with great distinction – in 2000 from the Lemmensinstituut in Louvain with a simultaneous Master of Music degree in Jazz and a Master of Music degree in Classical Performance, no mean feat) but post-EmArcy he seemed to go into a holding pattern, absorbed by prestigious classical commissions and performance.

Now, surrounded by some of Europe's adventurous young jazz musicians – Høiby, Nobel, Kummert – he pops up again, this time revisiting the instrumental chorale concept he introduced on ‘Casablanca Turtle Slideshow’ and the result is eminently convincing. Neve's improvisational approach is now more mature and rhythmically more flexible, while the ordering of his ideas possess great clarity. The integration of the horn section with a piano/bass duo is convincingly handled as are solo episodes by Noble, Kummert and Høiby – no doubt the ensembles would sound even better through a hi-fi system rather than computer speakers (as this was reviewed via sound link).
