After 17 years of collaboration with ACT and six albums, Mosaic emerges as a product of pandemic reflection, resulting is a series of portraits of treasured friends, musicians and family. The music of the brothers Wassefruhr is clearly thought out, concise in execution and is reassuringly middle of the road.

There is a sense you have heard all their compositions before, perhaps because the harmonies follow predictable paths and the neat, hummable reassuring melody lines are of genial disposition. It's all well crafted and presented with the charm of a genial maître d showing you to your seat, snapping his fingers for the waiter to bring the menus and wishing you bon appetit. But front of house gloss is only one element of a restaurant experience; it all hinges on the main course, and while the presentation is perfect, the taste here is a little vanilla. It lacks a wholesome sauce that pulls the dish together with the kind of culinary depth that only the best chefs can conjure up. But of course, there are many in the restaurant who are not gastronomes. They are having a good time. They don't care it's not haute cuisine, they say let's enjoy ourselves. And why not?
