Welcome to Planet Pimp for their (you'll never guess) sixth outing. The formula remains as predictable as that title: hi-energy 60s dance floor pop (it's a surprise to see this isn't released on K-Tel) with a veneer of synthetic bop flourishes. The tang of something different comes from three guests: Ringo Sheena's pepped up, quirky vox on ‘Crazy On Earth’, a classy if straightahead take on Mark Murphy's ‘Stolen Moments’ from Jamie Cullum, and, most intriguing, a collage of vox and urban sounds from DJ Kentaro. Otherwise what the guys do best is the party sounds of ‘Pop Korn’ and ‘Paraiso’, all good fun and totally anodyne (oh, Pizzicato 5 wherefore art thou now?). Lord knows why these good people get labelled Punk (they're as punk as Rotten's butter ads) or get name-checked with Sun Ra or Zorn as they're all about sparkly major chords and regimented rhythms. Which is fine and fun but as plastic as the doll on the sleeve. As cutting edge as my granny's gums, and proof, if needed, that you've got to wear more than a silly, shiny hat to get on board the Arkestra.
