This self-titled debut album from the exceptional trio of Thana Alexa, Nicole Zuraitis and Julia Adamy, documents their deep-seated musical connections in a profoundly satisfying way.

Ear-catching arrangements, an eclectic song list and exemplary musicianship – all superbly engineered, produced and mixed by Alexa – combine to produce one of the standout albums of 2022. The powerful, scene-setting opener ‘Doyenne’ includes a spoken word excerpts from abolitionist and women’s rights activist Sojourner Truth’s famous 1851 speech ‘Ain’t I A Woman’, Gloria Steinem’s trailblazing 1971 Address to the Women of America (“This is no simple reform. It really is a revolution") plus Malala Yousafzai’s 2014 Nobel Peace Prize lecture ("I am not a lone voice. I am many").

In addition to her gorgeous arrangement of ‘Michicant’ from Bon Iver’s 2011 second album, Bon Iver, Zuraitis also contributes the reassuring positivity of ‘Come A Long Way’, which reaches a remarkable climax with drummer Dan Pugach guesting. Other highlights include Adamy’s arrangement of the Stevie Wonder classic ‘Love’s In Need of Love’, crafted in response to the 2016 US Presidential election, the co-written climate crisis call to action, ‘Change It’, plus the affecting vocal arrangement of the traditional Irish song ‘Danny Boy’, chosen in remembrance of Adamy’s grandfather who sang it often during her childhood.
